Abiding Essence Part 8 in The Essence Series By Diane M. DeMore and Cindi McNulty
Abiding Essence follows a year in which Colin and Diane are more than aware they have to keep contact to a minimum. They have to let the dust settle on the scandal that was brought to the fore by Pattie. It won't go away easily and not having any contact at all is impossible. They know at least they can email and perhaps a phone call here and there is possible. What else can they do knowing almost anything either of them does will be watched and scrutinized? Agreed Colin more than Diane. The major problem is that they do have business/work connections outside the fan club and plausibly it will be doomed to failure that they not ever be in the same room at the same time. This is a total departure from any of the other stories in set up and format. A lot of the chapters are one form of communication or another between various characters in the story. Emails, letters, and phone calls; and will not necessarily be terribly long in content nor will they have music. There are the usual chapters where necessary, or as the story calls for. The communiqués all lead to those particular chapters. Therefore the story is done in four parts. It's different, but I believe it works well. I am of a mind this is a shorter saga than the others. The communication chapters are very short, but most of the regular chapters are normal lengths, in most cases. I didn't use varying colors in the communications between characters except where one was thinking back or in the case of phone calls, when other characters are talking away from the phone, but it is heard by the person on the other end. Cindi again helped do this one. After all, she helped develop this story, only seemed fair to include her. Besides I can't write Jack. Actions and reactions in this particular color are Hilary's, within the chapters we worked on together. Enjoy the story. The music for this story - You always find something old is new again. I used a Barry Manilow that for the life of me I can't remember and my mom being a fan I thought I'd heard them all. Yet the one I found, quite by accident, worked so well for the chapter I was seeking a song for. Then there's Journey and McCartney and The Letterman. Well you get the idea. I haven't left off my newer finds - Travis, Wilco, Dashboard Confessional. I suppose you could say I got back to using a variety and showing my eclectic taste in music. |
